How to choose the right charger for Microsoft Surface

Most Surface devices use the magnetic Surface Connect plug, and some newer models also support USB-C Power Delivery (PD). To avoid ordering the wrong charger, please match the output voltage (V), wattage (W) and connector type carefully:

• 1. Check the label on your original Surface power supply (if available).
  On the brick of your original charger you will see:
  • Output voltage and current, such as:
    15V 2.58A (39–40W),
    15V 2.58A + 5V 1A (44W),
    15V 4A + 5V 1A (65W),
    15V 6.33A + 5V 1A (102W) for high-power models like Surface Book or Laptop Studio.
  • One or more power supply model / part numbers, for example:
    Model 1625, Model 1706, Model 1798, Model 1800, Model 1924, Model 1963, etc.
  • Many Surface adapters also include a USB-A charging port (5V 1A) to charge a phone or accessory.

  Your new charger should have the same voltage (usually 15V) and an equal or higher wattage than the original.

• 2. Identify the connector type: Surface Connect or USB-C.
  Surface devices mainly use:
  • Surface Connect magnetic plug – a slim, rectangular magnetic connector with two rows of small contacts. Used on:
    Surface Pro 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 7+,
    Surface Pro 8 / 9 (alongside USB-C),

  Model 1901 (Surface Go), etc.
  This model code helps confirm which wattage and connector your Surface needs.
• 4. Worldwide input voltage and power cord.
