  • For models with a removable external battery: slide the latches, remove the battery and read the label on it.
  • For ultrabooks and many modern ThinkPads/IdeaPads: the main battery is internal. If you prefer not to open the cover, you can use the full model name and Machine Type to identify the correct battery.
• 4. Note the Lenovo battery part numbers. On Lenovo batteries you will usually see one or more of the following:
  • A code starting with L12 / L14 / L15 / L17 / L18 / L19 / L20…, for example L15M3PB0, L17M3PG2, L19M3PF3.
  • A FRU P/N (Field Replaceable Unit) such as FRU 01AV421, FRU 01AV427, FRU 5B10W13825.
  • Sometimes an ASM P/N (Assembly Part Number).
  • For classic ThinkPad batteries: names like ThinkPad Battery 61, 61+, 61++, 68, 68+, etc.

• 5. Check voltage and capacity. On the label you will also find voltage (V) and capacity (Wh / mAh), for example “11.4V 45Wh” or “15.36V 52.5Wh”. Your new battery should match the voltage and have a similar or higher capacity.
• 6. Be aware of dual-battery configurations (ThinkPad). Some ThinkPad models (e.g. T470/T480 series) use an internal battery plus an external rear battery. If your laptop has two batteries, make sure you know which one you want to replace – or replace both for maximum runtime.
