Fujitsu laptop keyboard problems – how to use this test
This page is designed for owners of Fujitsu laptops – including
Fujitsu Lifebook, Celsius mobile workstations and other Fujitsu
business notebooks – who want to check whether their built-in keyboard is still
working correctly. Press every key on your Fujitsu keyboard and watch if the
corresponding key on the layout above lights up.
1. Single keys on your Fujitsu keyboard not responding
If only one or two keys do not light up in this test, the most common causes are:
- A worn-out switch under the key after years of office or field use.
- Dust or small particles trapped under the keycap.
- A key that has been hit too hard or damaged during cleaning or transport.
Try gently cleaning around the key and repeat the test. If it still does not register,
the internal Fujitsu keyboard assembly is likely defective and should be replaced.
2. A full row or block of keys does not work
When a complete row (for example Q–P) or a block of keys (number pad, arrows, or F-keys)
fails in this test, it usually indicates:
- A loose or partially disconnected keyboard ribbon cable inside the laptop.
- Damage to the keyboard matrix on the internal PCB.
This kind of issue is rarely fixed by drivers or Windows settings. In most cases the
keyboard needs to be reseated or replaced.
3. Wrong characters or “ghost typing” on Fujitsu laptops
If you press one key and a different character appears on screen – or your Fujitsu
notebook starts typing by itself – the keyboard circuitry is often damaged, for example:
- After a liquid spill (water, coffee, soft drinks, etc.).
- After long-term wear or corrosion inside the keyboard.
When this behaviour also shows up in this tester, it strongly points to a hardware fault,
and the most reliable fix is a new keyboard.
4. Keys that repeat by themselves
A key that prints the same character multiple times, even though you only press it once,
is a classic sign of a worn or dirty switch. On Fujitsu Lifebook devices heavily used for
typing, this often affects keys like Enter, spacebar or the letters in
the main typing area.
You can try:
- Adjusting key repeat delay and repeat rate in Windows.
- Carefully cleaning under and around the affected keycap.
If the key still double-types in this online test, the fault is inside the keyboard
hardware and replacement is recommended.
5. Backlit Fujitsu keyboard issues
Some newer Fujitsu Lifebook and business series models include a backlit keyboard.
This tool only checks whether the keys register – it does not test
the backlight itself. If keys work here but the backlight doesn’t, the possible causes are:
- Backlight disabled in BIOS or in Fujitsu utility software.
- A damaged LED backlight circuit or cable.
If backlight is important in your work environment (for example, low-light offices or
field work), fitting a new backlit Fujitsu keyboard is often the cleanest solution.
6. After liquid or contamination
Fujitsu laptops used in warehouses, workshops or mobile environments can be exposed to
liquids and dust. Typical symptoms after such exposure include:
- Sticky keys or keys that feel heavy.
- Random characters appearing while you type.
- Several keys or complete rows that stop responding.
If multiple keys fail in this test after liquid or dust exposure, replacing the keyboard
is strongly recommended to keep the laptop reliable in daily use.
